HURWORTH PARISH COUNCIL
Two ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS Hurworth
HMS Hurworth (L28) - a Hunt-class destroyer, launched in 1941 and sunk in 1943.
HMS Hurworth (M39) - a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel, launched in 1984
The last correspondence the parish had with HMS Hurworth was in September of 2015 from Lieutenant Commander S. J White.
who reported that the ship was being used for training on the South Coast.
2-1-5-3-5 HMS Hurworth 2
Sadly we have not had a visit from HMS Hurworth for over four years due to the mineseeker vessel being deployed in the Middle East. The crews are regularly rotated and flown out from the UK to take up their duties. With the ongoing tense situation in the Gulf area it is difficult to predict when we are likely to have the pleasure of a ships company visit.
